The Virginia Department of Education awarded the University of Virginia and the Mathematics and Science Coalition a grant of $750,000 from 3/04-9/05 from Virginia ’s portion of the No Child Left Behind program to develop and offer new courses for future mathematics specialists. Project Director Loren Pitt, professor of Mathematics at the University of Virginia , reports that in summer 2004 residential courses for future mathematics specialists were held at James Madison University and the University of Virginia and non-residential courses were offered by Norfolk State University and Virginia Commonwealth University .  For information concerning additional offerings in spring and summer 2005, contact Loren Pitt at ldp@Virginia.EDU .
