Through its Mathematics and Science Partnership Program the National Science Foundation awarded Virginia Commonwealth University and the Mathematics and Science Coalition a grant of $3,726,915 from 8/04-7/09.  The grant will make it possible to prepare a total of 50 teachers to serve as Mathematics Specialists in partner school systems: Norfolk , Roanoke County , Hanover , Richmond City , Stafford , Alexandria , and Fairfax . Project Director Bill Haver, Professor of Mathematics at Virginia Commonwealth University , reports that the first cohort of 25 teachers will attend a month-long Institute for each of three summers and complete additional course work during the following school years.  Upon completion of the program they will serve as full-time school-based Mathematics Specialists.
